Trajectory
That’s the real secret of life. Case in point:
The Founding Fathers. Yes, most of them owned slaves. While it was accepted at the time, it was still very wrong. But, by establishing our country with The Declaration of Independence and then The Constitution, they put us on the right trajectory.
Abraham Lincoln continued that trajectory with the War Between the States and, finally, The Emancipation Proclamation. The trajectory continued, but it still wasn’t enough.
Dr. Martin Luther King and the many other Civil Rights Leaders of the 1950’s and 60’s, continued the trajectory. It was going in the right direction, but it still wasn’t perfect.
The murder of George Floyd and other recent tragedies, while horrific moments of the human experience, are continuing the trajectory. Things are already getting a little better, but the trajectory still has a long way to go.
Many years ago, I wrote, “While perfection may never exist, the pursuit may be as close as humanity will ever get. Perfection happens when we realize that we will never attain it, but it will always be worth the quest.”
Let the trajectory continue and may God bless The United States of America.
